Welcome to Math 1A: Calculus

Hello! Welcome to this course. I am excited to work with you this quarter and assist you in achieving your educational goals. I look forward to our class and getting to know you. If you have a preferred name that is not on the official roster, please let me know. You are welcome to call me "Doli." If you are uncomfortable with that, then "Professor" or "Professor Bambhania" is fine, too.

I love teaching this course! The ideas in this course - attributed primarily to Sir Isaac Newton (1643-1727) and Gottfried Wilhelm von Leibniz (1646-1716) - revolutionized the way we understand and calculate with continually changing quantities. Even though Newton developed calculus to answer questions about gravity and celestial mechanics, the subject is much more widely applicable. Calculus has given us tools to better understand and calculate quantities in all physical sciences, engineering, economics, finance, actuarial science, computer science, medicine, statistics, and more!
