Call to Action

In June 2020, the California Community Colleges Chancellor's Office issued a Call to Action that included the goal of auditing classroom climate and creating an action plan to "create inclusive classrooms and anti-racism curriculum."

DEI in Curriculum: Model Principles and Practices

The California Community College Curriculum Committee (5C) responded to the Call to Action with a set of recommended priorities focusing on championing equity-minded curriculum and practices for credit and noncredit instruction.

In 2022, the California Community Colleges Curriculum Committee (5C) released DEI in Curriculum: Model Principles and Practices, focusing on four areas:

Traditional educational practices
Alternative equity principles
Culturally responsive classroom practices
Culturally responsive practices for curriculum committees and local academic senates

The IDEAA Praxis

To support continuing work on IDEAA in curriculum, ASCCC approved the creation of a Praxis on Canvas to house resources and examples from the CCC system and beyond.

The Praxis begins by delving deeper into the equity principles introduced in DEI in Curriculum, provided suggestions for action at 3 different levels: gearing up, ready for action, and scaling up.

Additional modules contain examples of IDEAA work and resources for professional development. The Praxis is meant to evolve with our work, and depends on collaboration. Please share your ideas and examples with us to continue the discussion. (See Contribute to the Praxis)
