Instructions

Here in Part 1 of the Module 4 Activity, we're going to investigate moon phases.

First, here are the resources you'll need to complete this Part of the Activity:

  • Figure 4.14 in the textbook. Hopefully you've got the PDF version of the book open in a PDF-reader program, and can easily switch between looking at that PDF and working here in the browser.
  • NASA's "Moon Phase and Libration, 2018" web page. Near the top of that page, it should say "Dial-A-Moon".
  • An image of the Moon that  shows the names of the major features.

It's a good idea to have the "Dial-A-Moon" page and the image of the Moon open in their own browser tabs or browser windows.

The first set of questions, below, will ask you to use the "Dial-A-Moon" tool to find out when certain Moon phases will occur.

For all of the Dial-A-Moon questions, set the "UT Hour" to 7. That's the same as about 11pm in California. (Roughly speaking, UT is the time in London, England -  it's a standard time used by astronomers around the world, even if they're not in England.)

Your scores and feedback comments for this part of the Module 4 Activity will be available February 13 at 10pm.
